Art & Architecture of the Ancient Americas
Art and achitecture is the same in each civilization of the Americas. The art they all made was art of the gods they worshiped. They also made many types of pots with designs of there gods on it . The art was mostly ceramic art. The architecture they made was pryamids. Ancient American civilizations made many buildings to worship there gods.
-Olmec: From the Olmec civilizations there is evidence of housing remains and royal compounds. La Venta and San Lorenzo are known for colassal heads made from basalt. Houses were constructed by assembling pole-and-thatch systems to create walls and roofs, constructed buildings with compacted Earth. Royal compunds for Olmec rulers- the Red Palace features basalt roofs supports, gravel floors, and mud walls. La Venta's most impressive monument is the Great Pryamid near central plaza. the Great Pryamid rises about 105 feet. Classic Period monument reflect the way of the building style of the Zopatecs. The building usually had few decorations. Many of the buildings made of fine stone structures. The buildings were in form of stelae,
-Zapotec: The Zapotecs innovoted architecture by making tombs underground. The tombs were consturcted by dressed stone, they also included corridors. The tombs were elaborately decorated and the doorways have carved stone slabs.Classic Period monument reflect the way of the building style of the Zapotecs. The building usually had few decorations. Many of the buildings made of fine stone structures. The buildings were in form of stelae, pilliars, columns, and lintels. Zapotec art is visible in carvings, stelae geometeric design, urns, baziers, and monuments dedicated to the god they worshiped. The Zapatoecs also used murals in there art.
-Maya: The Mayan civilization were top in architecture. They built pryamid temples, housing complexes and plazas, as well as the ball court. They all have sloped sides in common. There structures were organized in a less systematic way than other Mesoamerican cities. The others were based on a grid system. The Maya had an urban planning more akin to old Europe. The Maya did not create a standardized or universal design among thier disparate cities. The Maya architectural style rose from local preferneces. The Maya settled in a sensitve environment, so the built sensivitely to thier environment. The Maya building did not distinguish greatly between buildings functions, and building served for more than one purpose. The Maya used corbeled vaulting and that made a V-shaped arch. The Maya civilization had an early preclassic edifice that is known as Structure EVII at Uaractun. Structure EVII is known as a six-leveled pyramid, whose facades correspnd to cardinal directions. It is the largest of three pyramids that formed the E-Group. Each side has serberal staircases, one is a central staircase that reaches the top level.
